You know how when you’re at home and you’re busy playing with your toys, and your mom or dad might say, “When the doorbell rings, come and tell me”? That doorbell is like a “webhook”.

In the world of computers, one program might be busy doing its own thing, like you are with your toys. But it needs to know if something happens somewhere else, like when your mom or dad needs to know if someone is at the door.

So, it sets up a “webhook”, which is like a doorbell on the internet. When something important happens in another program (like when someone rings the doorbell), the webhook “rings” and tells the first program about it. Then the first program can stop what it’s doing and handle the new information (like you going to tell your mom or dad that someone is at the door).

Just like you don’t need to stand by the door all day waiting for someone to arrive, a webhook lets a program wait for important events without having to constantly check if they’ve happened yet.
